Eligible U.S. citizens will be able to renew their passports online starting Friday, according to a State Department announcement.
The US State Department launched a pilot program in October that will allow up to 25,000 people to renew their passports online.
Volunteers must be at least 25 years of age and plan to use the same name, gender, date of birth, and place of birth on their new passport .
This online pilot program takes the same amount of time as a mail-in renewal. Now a typical application takes him 8-11 weeks.
Since this renewal is done over the internet, volunteers must be able to pay online and upload a digital photo of their passport.
Interested parties can first create an account on MyTravelGov. If applicants to meet all the criteria, it will be see option to renew passport.
If applicants are not selected at this stage, they may be given another opportunity, according to the State Department website.
Some people must be reluctant to publish online all the important information they need to renew their passports.
The current process of sending passports and other sensitive documents by mail is likely to be just as insecure, if not more secure.
Like all online business people, those using this pilot program should ensure they are using a secure network before entering sensitive information.
Those who meet the eligibility requirements should act quickly to participate in this pilot program.
